Technical solutions for energy transition

He has been employed at AGH Stanislaw Staszic University of Science and Technology in Krakow since 1996 and has been working in the Department of Power Electronics and Automation of Energy Conversion Systems (KEiASPE). He received his PhD degree in 2006 from the Department of Electrical Engineering, Automatics, Computer Science and Electronics, of which he is a graduate. His doctoral thesis was defended with distinction. Since 2015, he has been the head of the Electricity Quality Team , and since 2006 he has been the head of the Electricity Quality Postgraduate Program, of which there have been 14 editions.

He has served as chairman of the Polish Committee for Quality and Efficient Use of Electricity of the Association of Polish Electricians since 2019, and participated in the Board of Directors from 2014 to 2017. From 1998 to 2013, he worked as a lecturer at the School of Management and Banking in Cracow.

He was involved in the implementation of 18 projects and grants, including 6 international ones, and several implementations. He served as manager of three projects and participated in three foreign internships. He is the author and co-author of 102 scientific publications, including 8 books and scripts. Promoter of more than 90 theses (master’s, engineering and postgraduate). Actively participates in the work of the expert research and measurement team of the parent Department of EiASPE, which he co-founded. Co-author and co-author of more than a hundred reports and studies. As an expert, he cooperates with the transmission system operator Polskie Sieci Elektroenergetyczne and national distribution system operators: TAURON Dystrybucja, ENEA Operator, PGE Dystrybucja. He is a co-author of the method for calculating aggregate and global power quality indicators adopted by the Energy Regulatory Office. This method is implemented in balancing electricity meters that are installed in the national power system.

Main areas of involvement and professional experience: analysis, evaluation and improvement of the quality of electricity supply and conditions of power supply and efficient use of energy, diagnostics of the operation of power grids and equipment, post-failure analysis, smart grids power systems, the impact of distributed and renewable energy sources, monitoring systems for the parameters of the operation of power grids, and energy active filters and power conditioners (reduction of higher harmonics of voltages and currents, reactive power compensation, symmetrization of currents and voltages).

Participant and speaker at many scientific and industry conferences and seminars at home and abroad. Co-organized experimental comparative studies of power quality analyzers – JEE Picnic 2014, energy meters – AMI Picnic 2015, and photovoltaic inverters – RES Picnic 2021. He participated in the process of establishing the Electricity Quality Laboratory Complex at AGH in the Energy Center, and is currently involved in the ongoing work.

He actively represents AGH in non-academic environments working with: commercial power industry, industry, energy clusters, institutions related to electricity markets, manufacturers and distributors of apparatus and systems for measuring and recording power quality indicators, energy storage systems and power conditioning systems.

Awarded the Silver Medal for Long Service, the Medal of the National Education Commission and the Stanislaw Staszic Medal. He is a member of the Association of Polish Electrical Engineers and a member of the Board of Directors of the Discipleship Foundation, which aims to promote Christian education in the broadest sense, based on the truths contained in the Bible with respect for those who think differently, and to counteract discrimination and social exclusion.
